When you add an “S” badge on the sports car, you can expect nothing else than mind-blowing performances. That is exactly what 2018 BMW i8S is going to be.
To remind you, famous Bavarian car maker released a sporty i8 three years ago. After a great reception, the company is going to introduce its hi-performance version. Compared to the base model, we expect to see many improvements.
First of all, we will see even better performances. Although we still don’t have the exact information, we are pretty sure that modifications will be done both on gasoline and electric motor. There are even reports about completely new gasoline unit. Besides more power and much better performances, we expect to see changes in other aspects too. It is quite possible to see some nice changes on the exterior design, which includes more attractive body work, wheels etc.
2018 BMW i8S redesign
As we already mentioned, there are some nice changes to come with the new 2018 BMW i8S. Compared to the base i8 model, the base design will remain pretty close. We will see the same platform that utilizes plenty of lightweight materials. However, we expect some additional modifications that will provide even more weight savings. The base model weighs around 3300 pounds.
Besides this weight reduction which will surely bring some benefits in terms of speed and handling, new 2018 BMW i8S will also come with several modifications in terms of styling. We will see plenty of new details, which will emphasize cars sporty character. Compared to the base models, we will see completely new body kits, including bumpers, spoiler etc. According to some reports, we could even see some smaller modifications on the hood and similar areas. 2018 BMW i8S powertrain
The new 2018 BMW i8S will come with big improvements in power, compared to the base model. The standard model combines a 238-hp gasoline engine with a 129-hp electric motor. When it comes to the new version, exact details are still unknown. There are two possible choices both for gasoline and electric motors.
When it comes to gasoline units, the new model will either feature a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 323 horsepower, or a 3.0-liter V6, which has a max output of 487 horses.
When it comes to electric motors, there are also two possibilities. The first one is that the new version will feature the same 129-hp electric motor. In another case, we will see a new unit, with a much higher output of around 210 horses. In any case, expect amazing performances, with the 0-60 time in less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
2018 BMW i8S fuel economy
Besides excellent performances, 2018 BMW i8S should also feature amazing fuel economy. However, numbers will a little bit lower compared to the base model. The standard model returns around 110 miles per gallon and it has a total range of 350 miles. On the other side, the all-electric range is around 15 miles. The base model features a 7.1-kWh battery pack, we could see more capacity for this version.

The 2018 BMW i8S should come somewhere next year, but the more precise date is still unknown.
