Since the SUV segment is one of the leading in the industry, we aren’t surprised to see that many manufacturers are going to introduce their models in near future. Chevrolet is a perfect example.
The famous American manufacturer plans to introduce several new electric vehicles in near future. This will probably be the first one. It is a new crossover based on the amazing all-electric hatchback Bolt. This small hatch has been praised for its excellent characteristics and it is definitely one of the leading models in class. Its SUV version is about to come within next 18 months, according to latest reports.

Last month, GM presented its plan to introduce 20 new electric vehicles by 2020. The company’s CEO Mary Barra gave us a presentation, which included a picture of a possible new crossover. On this image, you can clearly notice that it is a new, Bolt-like crossover. However, it is still unclear was this picture in use just for the presentation, or there are some real plans for this crossover. After the presentation, information about this particular model remained pretty sketchy. However, there are various rumors among journalists. Most of them expect to see this model in next 18 month. According to them, the new 2019 Chevrolet Bolt SUV doesn’t require so much time for development. On the other side, there is a chance to see this model under the Buick’s badge, since this brand is present in China, where electric cars will soon become obligatory.
What to expect from a new 2019 Chevrolet Bolt SUV?
Well, it hard to predict something more precise about the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt SUV. However, if we can judge on the image from the presentation, it is clear that the new crossover will share many characteristics with the famous hatchback. Although there was a word about a completely new architecture on the presentation, we still believe that this particular model will ride on the same platform as Bolt. Of course, we could see some modifications, but the core will remain the same.
When it comes to styling, we should see pretty much the same shape as on the hatch. Just like it is the case with conventional small crossovers, this one will probably also be some kind of a classic hatchback with higher ground clearance. On the other side, we will not be surprised at all if we see a completely the same interior design.

We heard few words about powertrain of 2019 Chevrolet Bolt SUV on the presentation. The first thing we heard is about the reduction of battery costs. It should go down from 145 to under 100 dollars. Also, there was a talk about new modular architecture that will provide a much better fuel economy.
When it comes to the powertrain of this particular model, we believe that will feature pretty much the same system as Bolt. We will probably see the same electric motor which delivers around 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. We should also see a battery with a similar capacity. However, due to better fuel economy, we presume that the overall range will go up to 300 miles.

Although we didn’t hear precise information, it is pretty much for sure that the new 2019 Chevrolet Bolt SUV will come within next 18 months. It is still early to speculate about the price. However, we can presume that the new crossover could cost few thousands more than its related hatchback. It starts around 37.000 dollars.
