The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi is one of the newest hybrid plug-in vehicles that will be soon available in the market. Hybrid means that its engine can be powered either petrol or electricity; or both. The car, whose first model was released in 2013, has constantly been improved over the last couple of years.
Currently, it is able to drive on electricity for about 21 miles before you are forced to switch over to the gas engine. When it switches, it is quite fuel efficient. It has a capacity of 5 passengers.
2018 Ford Fusion Energi – Interior and Exterior Structuring
The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi has an interior that is set up for enhanced visibility and good spacing. It has easy to operate, touch-sensitive controls. The rotary transmission lever fitted on the car takes some getting used to.
The doors of the car are big allowing easy exit and entry. Generally, there is sufficient shoulder and legroom space. However, the roofline slopes at the rear end of the car making it practically impossible for tall people to use the backseat.
The trunk of the car is filled with a Fusion Energi battery leaving minimal space that can be used as extra storage. As such, the car would not be ideal for long trips or big shopping trips to the mall. The car also has a chrome grille, 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear bumpers, keyless entry and ignition, LED headlamps, taillamps, and signature lighting.
2018 Ford Fusion Energi – Powertrain Specs
The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi is powered by a 2.0 liter Atkinson cycle I, four-cylinder turbocharged, eco-boost engine. The gas engine is integrated and linked to an electric motor that is powered by a high voltage lithium-ion battery pack through an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT). The eCVT helps the car match gears to power ratios.
The car has front-wheel drive and can achieve maximums speed of up to 85 mph while running on its electric motor. The Fusion Energi battery pack comes with a standard 120-volt charging cord. It will allow you to fully charge the battery within seven hours. A special 240-volt charging code can also be used and it will charge the car in under two and a half hours.
The car is capable of comfortably achieving 188 horsepower with temporary power boosts of up to 195 horsepower. It gets averagely 41 miles per gallon when the vehicle is powered by the petrol engine. The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi’s handling is a bit sporty but not the best. However, it is still fun to drive. Issuing of commands is made easier by a voice control system.
