The 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid will be the company’s first hybrid vehicle of the hugely successful F series range of trucks which are currently in the thirteenth series. The F series has consistently been the best selling truck in America for close to four decades now, and the company has seen the need to embrace the future by investing in vehicles that incorporate hybrid technology.
In 2015, the company set aside $4.5 billion to produce several models in a five-year plan, hoping to keep up with the stiff competition within the automobile industry. One of these models in development is the 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid.
Ford promises that the new model will come with enormous payload and towing abilities. This is a bold statement by Ford since hybrid power-trains are known to be deficient in towing capacity. However, based on the automaker’s reputation for innovation, we will have to wait and see what they are capable of.
2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid – Body and Shape
The 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid is expected to retain the new F series shape that was introduced in 2015. While its chassis will be crafted from steel, the exterior body will be made of lightweight aluminum. It is possible that Ford will, however, change the design of the front grille to incorporate a large inscription of the name Ford like it appears on the Raptor series.
The 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid will accommodate 5 passengers. All seats will be upholstered in leather with a heating feature. The interior cabin is set to be equipped with a Bang&Olufsen sound system that will replace the Sony systems of previous models. The windows and the sunroof will be power controlled, with the back window having a defrosting function. The steering wheel is also poised to come wrapped in leather with heating capabilities.
2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid – Safety Features and Engine Specs
The Ford F-150 Hybrid will be driven by combined power from a gasoline engine and an electric drive system. This means the vehicle will now not only have impressively low fuel consumption but also very fast acceleration thanks to the electric drive system.
The hybrid drivetrain, however, means that the vehicle might have reduced towing capacity. The driving experience will be enhanced by a blind spot warning feature and lane-keeping assist. All versions will also come with a keyless ignition system.
The roaring engine sound that drivers are accustomed to this vehicle, however, will probably not be present in the 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid, since hybrid drive-trains are known to be notoriously silent. Most technical features of the new model remain closely guarded secrets. However, based on the scant information available, this is what one can expect from the vehicle:
1. Engine – 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine
2. Gearbox – 10-speed automatic transmission
3. Power – 300 + horsepower combined with electric motor
Expected Release Date and Cost
The official launch of the new Ford F-150 Hybrid is expected to be between late 2019 and early 2020. Since hybrid vehicles cost more than their gasoline-powered counterparts, the 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid will probably be slightly more expensive compared to its current version, starting at about $50,000.
We currently own a 2016 Fusion Hybrid and a 2016 F150. Just curious to know what the fuel economy will be for the F150 Hybrid. If the MPG is anything close to what are Fusion is getting we will buy one when they come out. On paper the Fusion is getting 41 plus MPG.
