It seems like that three big carmaking companies are joining forces to create an unstoppable alliance. Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Renault are involved in this partnership. Big three will try to increase their chances on the market, especially in electric vehicle’s segment. This is not an easy task, but manufacturers took it seriously. Big investments from all sides are expected to result in big profit. How serious this alliance is, we can see with the introduction of a logo and a website. Also, the contract says that we will see a model coming out until 2022. By then, estimations are that alliance will grow by 30 percent compared to the current level. This should bring an increase in profit, for around 250 billion dollars. The plan is to sell almost 15 million cars per year. Some say – pretty optimistic.

Platforms

When you join three big companies in one big alliance, there are a lot of ideas, existing and new. Current platforms from Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi are a good start for developers. However, existing concepts will get many upgrades and additions. Same is with drivetrains. It is impossible to say which company will give each part. It is better to speak about exploiting the best from all carmaker. So far, we know that this alliance will build their vehicles on six platforms. Furthermore, a total of 31 engines are ready, and 22 of them come as shared.

Electric vehicles

The main purpose of the alliance is making of the electric vehicles. These three manufacturers plan to invest a lot in EV platform, which will be used as a concept for cars from all companies. So far, we have announcements about 12 all-electric vehicles. Nevertheless, that is quite all we could find out. Fans are still looking for details about segments and classes. Maybe it is too early since the first car is arriving in 2020. The information we know is not official, but from earlier statements, we can expect vehicles which will deliver at least 370 miles of driving, with power coming just from electric motors. But, what is more interesting, new technologies will make 15 minutes charge enough for 140 miles of running.

Autonomous car

It is impossible to say or predict all systems and features that will alliance bring. However, Renault, Mitsubishi, and Nissan are working on mutual technologies. These will come for joint products, and separately. There are more partners in this project. Some vehicles are already in first testing phases, thanks to DeNA and Transdev. This will lead to autonomous car, which will be able to ride independently. Humans will have to monitor it every now and then, but interventions will be rare. This alliance between three carmakers is going to develop new connectivity system. All data interfaces and systems will be together in one Connected Cloud feature. At the end, this will result in a lower cost of the cars and better efficiency.

Goal

It is all simple – companies are trying to beat the competition, by joining forces, saving in investments, and offering better models. For example, in the first half of 2017, these three carmakers produced 5.2 million vehicles. Toyota and VW are not even close to it. By the end of the year, the number will go over 10 million. In next six year, we should see the growth of 30 percent, raising a total number of products to nearly 14 million. Furthermore, this brings more money. Estimations are that, by the end of 2022, the alliance will have revenue of $240 billion, comparing to $180 from the last reports. Also, the partnership will save more than $12 billion per year for all three companies.
