The Swedish car giant is going to step into the fast-growing small crossover segment band with the new model 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid. The upcoming XC40, which will be unveiled in the USA will be positioned below the larger siblings aka XC60 and XC90 in the lineup.
2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid – Spacious and Futuristic
The company recently announced that its entire lineup will be electrified by 2019. So, the unveiling of a 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid powertrain is in sync with that. The exterior of upcoming XC40 will be painted in solid, monochromatic themes but some two-tone options will also be offered. The design will be inspired by the company’s 40.1 concept car which was unveiled in 2016. It will be based on Compact Modular Architecture platform of Volvo.
The colorful design will also be there in the cabin, as per the sources. The Volvo will offer Oxide Red seat and Lava Orange carpet, for example. The cabin is expected to be laden with amenities, as is the case with most Volvo cars.
The Volvo has paid particular attention to making the cabin of 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid compact crossover useful and spacious. Provisions have been made to store widely used gadgets and accessories while driving in a safe and convenient way. For example, the dashboard has slots for credit cards. There is the place for phone holder as well which doubles up as the wireless charger. The glove box has the hook to hold a small grocery bag. Beneath the trunk floor, there is a hidden storage compartment.
Safety Technologies
The 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid will be equipped with a lot of new safety technologies to avoid the collision. It will also get amenities to ensure users enjoy the comfortable ride. So safety features like traction control, pedestrian detection and autonomous braking, rearview camera and lane keep assisting are expected. Amenities are likely to include dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and heating seats. It will also be equipped with the latest touchscreen-based infotainment setup.
Engine Specs
The upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid compact crossover will feature both regular fuels driven engines and a PHEV variant will also be released. The model will be laden with a hybrid powertrain- a lower version of T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain- used in both XC90 and XC 60. It will have a 9.7 kWh battery and 55-kilowatt electric motor. Not much is known about the output and fuel economy of the upcoming PHEV powertrain.
Price and Availability
The company has not said anything on the pricing of upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-in Hybrid crossover. But it will be priced a tad above regular versions. A late 2018 release date is expected.
