A simple hatchback Volkswagen Golf has grown over the years to an all-electric e-Golf. Firstly unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, e-Golf went on a global trend and started with the sale in the summer of 2014. Speaking of U.S. market, e-Golf arrived in late 2014. Now, the all-new 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf will be unveiled.
Compared to its competitors like Nissan Leaf, BMW i3, e-Golf offers a more upscale feel and comfort. Performance is also great, with good driving characteristics. We can say that the upcoming VW e-Golf feels like a big car in a small package.
2019 Volkswagen e-Golf Redesign
The exterior of 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf in easily recognizable. Even that this model suffered numerous redesigns, the 2-box profile is still the same, like on the original Golf. If you look closer, the body reveals almost the same add-ons like on GTE model.
The front radiator grille comes with a new blue strip at the bottom and it extends to the LED daytime running lights. The LED headlights are revised and e-Golf badge is placed in the center of the grille. The bumper down low is reshaped and slightly wider. The surfaces are with crisp lines and the C-pilar looks more distinctive. The new e-Golf has a wide track and it sits low, the design is muscular but appealing. At the back, this hatchback offers new LED taillights but the rest is unchanged.
2019 Volkswagen e-Golf Interior
VW Golf will continue the tradition of the upscale interior that comes with soft-touch surfaces and high-quality materials. On some higher trims, even with piano-black accents. The cabin is spacious with more shoulder room in both rows. Cargo volume is 22.8 cubic feet and the loading is now easier thanks to a low liftover placed in the rear hatch.
The rear seats are folding, expanding the space to impressive 52.7 cubic feet. The interior gained new seat covers and customizable ambient lighting. However, Volkswagen focused more on tech features, making new e-Golf probably the most modern hatchback on the market.
Speaking of standard equipment, the 2019 VW e-Golf offers cloth seating, steering-wheel controls, air conditioning and touch-screen infotainment system. At higher trims, a panoramic sunroof also comes as a standard, the same is for Fender Premium Audio System and heated front seats. Optional equipment is mostly numerous safety features. There is also a performance package that includes an adaptive-damping system and larger breaks.
2019 Volkswagen e-Golf Engine
The approaching 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf comes with three engine options. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder created 170 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with a Golf TSI model. GTI model offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 210 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Golf R package is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder drivetrain that returns 295 HP and 286 lb-ft of torque. Depending on choose trim, e-Golf uses an electric motor that possesses an estimated range of 115 miles. It is an AC synchronous electric motor and it can provide up to 134 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque. The EPA rating for it is combined 119 MPGe.
2019 Volkswagen e-Golf Price and Release Date
The price of the newly 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf is $32,000. The sporty GTI is available for $26,500 which is a fair price. The Golf R will cost slightly above $37,000. We can expect this hatchback to hit the market around the spring of 2019, but there is no exact release date, yet.
