The upcoming 2019 BMW i8 is a mid-size coupe with a sharp look, great speed potential, and hybrid drivetrain. Firstly introduced in 2013, the i8 model remained a popular hybrid sports car. However, now is a perfect time for refreshments, and BMW already showcased the i8 Coupe model at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2017.
The changes are minor but visible with some new styling tweaks. New and better battery pack isn’t visible but it will mean so much in the further journey of BMW i8. An all-electric range and even power are now better and only the time will show if new i8 is ready to step up against other hybrid rivals.
2019 BMW i8 Comes with futuristic design as always
The 2019 BMW i8 doesn’t look much different from the outgoing model. The hood is still flat and it slightly curves down below towards the pavement. Headlights are narrower and with LED units. Between them, comes a kidney front-grille with a horizontal vent above the grille.
The front grille comes with an air flap and air curtains. Those features will help in manipulating the air in a much better and natural way. The air is better manipulated in overall, as the air is directed more through the car’s fenders and arches than through the hood like before.
The roofline looks long and low and the rear end looks beefier and muscular. For the 2019 model, a new set of paints are available such as Frozen Grey Metallic, Donington Grey Metallic, and E-Cooper Metallic. As usual, i8 is an aerodynamic coupe and will remain as such.
2019 BMW i8 Interior Specs
The interior of the 2019 BMW i8 comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel that is now standard and behind that, a multifunctional instrument display is placed. Steering-wheel now features a set of shift paddles for manual gear changes. The interior comes with a full-leather upholstery and standard Ivory White color scheme. There is also an optional color scheme and dark Amido is just one of them. Optional Halo trim comes with cloth and leather upholstery in Dalbergia coloring.
High tech cabin is fulfilled with full infotainment features and all of the instrumentation is digital. The car’s energy management will be shown on the control screen. This display is very adaptable, for example, if you put your car into Sport mode the display will shift into an orange color, while comfort mode provides blue power meter.
2019 BMW i8 Engine Info
The 2019 i8 will hit the markets with a new hybrid drivetrain. This engine comes with the all-wheel-drive system and numerous all-electric driving modes. It can produce up to 230 HP and 240 pound-feet of torque and it comes with a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
The single synchronous electric motor is mounted in the front of the car and it provides i8 with an AWD grip. However, the lithium-ion battery pack is under the body and it helps the motor to burst an additional 141 HP. The 1.5-liter engine combined with an electric output will return 357 HP and it reached 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
The new model 2019 BMW i8 run 155 mph and it can be driven in all-electric for 18 miles. The recharging is quick with the 110-volt household it takes only 3.5 hours. However, if one uses faster 220v charger it can reduce time by 1.5 hours.
