According to some reports, GM is going to bring back its sporty plug-in hybrid next year, as 2018 Cadillac ELR. This model originally came in 2013 and it was in production until last year. The company introduced a luxury compact coupe with a hybrid powertrain and had big expectation from in. It shared most of its characteristics with the famous Chevrolet Volt, including completely the same powertrain. However, the new model didn’t manage to make some decent sales results, so discontinuation was pretty much expected. However, some reports suggest that the new version of this plug-in hybrid will come next year. As you probably know, the second-generation Volt came recently, so we could see this luxury compact car as well. The 2018 ELR will come with the new platform, featuring new design and powertrain. It could come already next year, although there is no official information about the new model.

However, there are rumors about the second generation. According to them, the company will go for another try with this coupe. So far, there is no official information about the new model. However, we can presume that will once again share most of its characteristics with the Chevy Volt. The famous plug-in hybrid was redesigned recently and new 2018 Cadillac ELR should feature those novelties. It will ride on the new D2XX platform. This architecture brings several benefits, especially in terms of weight savings. Besides new mechanical solutions, we will also see a completely new styling. It will follow the latest design language of the brand. The interior will be also completely new, with plenty of latest technologies.

This potential redesign will definitely include some significant changes inside. Compared to the original, we should see a completely new cabin, with new styling and hi-quality materials. Also, the new D2XX platform provides a little bit longer wheelbase, which should provide more space inside. The 2018 Cadillac ELR will also come with plenty of new technologies and a full load of equipment. For this occasion, leather upholstery should be a standard feature, as well as a panoramic sunroof. We should also see plenty of technologies like a 7-inch touchscreen, an eight-speaker Pioneer audio system, and a satellite radio. 2018 Cadillac ELR powertrain
The original version features the same powertrain as Chevy Volt and new 2018 Cadillac ELR shouldn’t be an exception. We will probably see the same configuration, which includes a 1.5-liter gasoline unit along with two electric motors. The familiar gasoline unit features around 100 horses. On the other side, one electric motor is good for about 117 horses, while the other has 64 horsepower. A battery pack has a capacity of 18.4 kWh. The great thing about this powertrain is that it could operate in three modes. In a combined mode, this coupe will feature amazing performances. It will also feature a great fuel economy of 77 mpg in a combined drive. There is also a gasoline-only model, which provides great performances but 42 miles per gallon. In all-electric mode, this coupe should be able to return around 106 mpg. Total all-electric range should be over 50 miles.
