The 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is a one of kind. Unlike other electric cars that promise mileage, it promises speed. The electric cars have yet to go off-road given their battery life, but the Smart promises to compete with the best on the tarmac.
It’s Smart’s first fully electric vehicle and its sleek design is one more reason for it to be considered by any car buyer not just those committed to a cleaner world.
2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive – Attractive Small Car
The safety was one of the main concerns of the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive, and it has a Tridion Safety Cell protecting it. The safety cell was made with reinforced steel, and it makes up most of the chassis of the vehicle.
Certain points of the chassis have also been strengthened, and it will hold firm in anything but the grisliest of crashes. The cell is marked with a different colored streak, but it can be as many colors as the rest of the body is, and 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has ensured there’s a wide variety to choose from.
It’s also only 106.1 inches long so parking will never be a worry. You’d expect the front to be used as a trunk since its engine is in the rear.
For the Dashboard, the manufacturer decided to install traditional gauges. As its name suggests it only seats two. The top of the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is removable, and the option of a sunroof or the top being completely down is accessible with the push of a button.
Engine and Top Speed
The engine is where the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has beaten the market by a mile. It can produce 80 horsepower from its electric motor, and its top speed is 81 miles per hour. An impressive feat for an electric car. In fact, were it not for its battery life, it could probably have been made to go faster.
The steering is easy to handle with the power steering option, and it can turn a full circle using only 22.8 feet of space. For torque, it generates 118 lbs of force per foot.
Its battery is good for approximately 70 – 80 miles, and it needs 16.5 hours of charge at a 120-volt outlet. This is an option best used at home. However, at a 240-volt outlet, charging time is cut down to a measly 3 hours.
Price and Launch Date of the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive
The statistics are impressive but with electric being the only option, not many people outside urban areas would consider it. Given its design and performance, the Smart was definitely targeting those who would value performance over cost.
The 2018 Fortwo has a recommended retail price of $ 25,750. The release date is expected in a couple of months.
