2018 Volvo S90 Hybrid, T8, Review

Volvo S90 is a sophisticated midsize-luxury sedan that was firstly introduced in 1996. Over the years, the S80 replaced the S90 model, and in 2016 S90 returned to the dealerships. Now, the 2018 Volvo s90 Hybrid comes with some radical upgrades. The hybrid model is not the only change, as wheelbase is increased, just like the legroom inside the cabin. The newest model Volvo S90 is more spacious than its competitors BMW 530e, Lexus ES and Audi A6.

The upcoming Volvo S90 comes with two trim levels with numerous engine options. The increase of standard equipment is another great innovation for the upcoming model.

2018 Volvo S90 Hybrid will have the same headlamps like XC90 model

The exterior of newly 2018 Volvo S90 Hybrid looks gorgeous. This sedan uses the same design language as the XC90 model. Both models feature a new front grille, and even the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights. However, the headlamps on S90 are slimmer and below that is a new sporty bumper with the wide air intake.

Another thing that surprised many car experts is longer wheelbase. The wheelbase is now 4.7 inches wider and nothing happened in terms of design changes. Instead of ending up with awkward design and proportions, Volvo somehow managed to keep the recognizable shape of S90.

Just like with the exterior and longer wheelbase, the 2018 Volvo S90 Hybrid will feature an additional 4.5 inches of legroom. There is a lot of space for the legroom at the rear seats and the seats are not only spacious but wide as well.

This sedan comes with five seats, and Volvo is famous for making luxury vehicles with great comfort. On top of that, Volvo managed to mix high-tech features with an old looking cabin. Almost all of the controls can be found within the large touchscreen that reminds us of an iPad. The touchscreen is intuitive, simple and it looks elegant. However, center console and instrument cluster are the same as on XC90 model, but still, the whole cabin feels premium and comfy.

Volvo offers two engines for T5 and T6 versions, both 2.0-liter, where one is turbocharged and the other one is supercharged. Turbocharged engine makes 250 HP, while supercharged unit burst 316 HP. However, the biggest refreshment on the upcoming 2018 Volvo S90 is a plug-in hybrid configuration.

This hybrid version is available only on T8 model, and it is a mix of two mentioned engines and 87 HP electric motor. Also, we must mention that 10.4-kWh Lithium-Ion is there. When you put everything together, you get a hybrid model that produces 400 HP and 472 lb-ft of torque. Combined fuel economy is 29 mph with the front-wheel-drive system. The all-electric range will be 21 miles.

2018 Volvo S90 Hybrid Price and Release Date

The forthcoming 2018 Volvo s90 Hybrid will cost around $63,000. The thing is that the hybrid is available only with a T8 model that offers great features, so the price could’ve been lower. The base S90 model starts at $49,000 so it is a sad story in some way.
The S90 Hybrid will hit the markets in the second part of 2018.
